Bertha by DMStrecker Bertha by DMStrecker
Bertha is an Assfaster Class StarFreighter piloted by the Sower, Resin Methas in his quest to bring the forbidden seed to the universe.

This piece is 24" x 36" and I started with a sheet of bright yellow smooth drawing paper. I used pencil to rough it in based on a sketch I had done, and then blocked in the color using berol markers. I finished it off with colored pencil, rapidograph style pens, and opaque white rollerball pens.

I used this as the basis for a 1" to 1' scale acrylic model you can see here...

When I was a kid, there was a magazine called Car-Toons that had a cut-away feature every month of a hot-rod. i think that was the first time I'd ever seen something like that. Loved those things. Glad this one brought back some good feelings for you!

Well, it's a Romanian book called The planet of the average people.

Ha! Sounds good. I've never heard of it, but I'll keep a look out.

Bertha was kind of inspired by a 50's style Chevy Nomad and a UPS truck. It's basically an oversized, outdated interplanetary delivery truck. It also reminds me a bit of the space Winnebago from Spaceballs.

I love this detailing! I'm faving this, and +Watching you for more.

'Bertha' may be its name; but it really gives the impression of a more modernized 'family wagon' that 'Junior' will someday be begging dad to borrow for his date -- whether it comes back with a few new dents and dings is another matter....

I think I'd like to try making a 3d-model of this craft. Any possibility of doing some other angles, especially of the view from within the cargo hold? :)

Thanks for the fav and watch. Glad you like her!

I really would love a 3D model of her, and have a rudimentary one that i did myself for reference, but it doesn't have the interior. I'll try to work up a schematic and post it if you want to do a build. Do you have any images of other things you've built? I didn't see anything posted in your gallery.

I do have some vector files that I used to cut an acrylic version of Bertha and some of those could be used as reference. You can see some not-so-great pictures of that model here.

I was actually going for something inspired by the 50s or 60s car design aesthetic when I came up with it. Good eye.

A really original craft!

She is a type witch shall be used for hundreds of years always trying to fall apart but having that plan crossed by a legendary engineer aboard, a craft so lovely that "passangers" would not leave if they got used to it.
